Golf for the Zen side of you. Aug 07, 2010

This is a great little book about the "inner" game of golf and what it really means. I enjoyed it and then donated it to my local library.

GREAT GOLF READ May 30, 2010

I'm currently half way through this book, and brother, let me tell you it's a great read.
It's about golf and a fictional character named Shivas Irons-who is quickly becoming an icon in the golf world.

If you golf, read this book.
If you don't golf and don't understand why people golf-read this book.
If you don't care, why are you reading this?

I gotta go now and finish read Golf in the Kingdom before the movie comes out!

Inspired and Inspiring! Feb 22, 2010

It's been many years since I first read "Golf in the Kingdom" but I'm still trying to get other people to read it. Yes, it is ostensibly about golf, but it's really about the golfer's relationship to himself. When I read the book, I was an avid though struggling golfer - having a standing tee time at a particular Portland Oregon public golf course - Heron Lakes. The day after I finished reading the book, I met my usual golfing bud at the course first thing in the morning. We were teamed up with two singles and off we went for a round of golf. Right away I knew something was different with my game. Being a high handicapper - and a woman to boot - I was often somewhat embarrassed to play with more proficient male players. But that day I came out swinging and hit my best game ever - 95 for 18. Not so fantastic, you say. But to me it was a mind-blowing event. I had been playing serious, regular golf for years and had never broken 100!

Golf in the Kingdom is more than a mystical encounter with a ghost on Ye Auld Course... it uses golf as a metaphor for a way of living that takes you out of your usual and into something higher, something better, something beyond your pale everyday downtown existence.

Obviously, I HIGHLY recommend GOLF IN THE KINGDOM!
